Experience glamping refined in this professionally designed cabin that pays homage to the tents of a Viking encampment. Our stunning open concept means nature is never far away. The cabin, Rosa, is in a secluded spot a few feet from the over 24 thousand square kilometres of beautiful Lake Winnipeg in the summer, and on the lake in the winter.

In 1875, 235 Icelandic descendants of Vikings headed north from Winnipeg, Manitoba, down the Red River to Lake Winnipeg’s west shore. These travellers were promised an Icelandic reserve, which became New Iceland. In 1881, provincial borders extended north, and New Iceland, which was originally in the Northwest Territories, became part of Manitoba, with its original settlement destination being Gimli. Eventually, Icelandic settlers spread out across the province, and Balaton Beach - where Rosa calls home - is a 30-minute drive north of Gimli, a 10-minute drive south-east from Riverton, on the south-west tail of Lake Winnipeg, living with all that history.

Being totally off-grid we have a very comfortable private restroom with a compost toilet, forced-air propane-powered heater with thermostat, 4.5 cubic foot fridge with freezer, Weber grill, and an outdoor sink. Powered by solar panels and battery, we aim to minimize or environmental footprint.

From the couch you can see the lake from 3 sides of the cabin as there are more than 10 large windows. Baltic Birch walls from Russia ply the 20-foot high A-frame to the open peak. The super cozy queen bed is on the main floor.

Park then walk about 400 feet through a field to get to the cabin. We have a wagon to help carry your gear if needed.

Potable water is provided in 5 gallon water containers that can be used for drinking, washing, coffee, and the outside shower. We provide the propane for appliances, hot water heater for the shower and the BBQ , lake-friendly soaps and all the firewood you need is included. At the end of your stay we remove all waste in an environmentally sustainable manner.
